How to Brew Great Coffee with a Drip Maker

For convenience and sheer volume, it’s hard to beat a drip coffee maker: one simple filter size, just a few buttons to press, and predictable results. And you can still brew like a coffee connoisseur even if you’re using a drip machine. Whether you’re using pre-ground coffee or grinding your own, keep these steps in mind next time you brew up a batch of Tag in your drip maker. (Our Campfire blend is excellent in a drip maker, by the way.)

Step 1

Just like with a pour-over, if your pot uses a paper coffee filter, you’ll want to rinse it with hot water first. This removes that papery taste that can seep into your coffee.

Step 2

Know your measurements. Those “cups” marked on your coffee pot don't refer to standard 8 oz U.S. cups. In fact, each "cup" is usually about 4 to 5 ounces. So, when you fill the pot, you’ll typically get about three to four standard cups of coffee from a full brew. A 12 cup pot is usually 60 oz or 1.8 liters.

When measuring your ground coffee, use about 1.5-2 scoops per coffee pot "cup". If you’re using a scale, that’s roughly 10 grams of coffee per “cup”. For full bodied coffee, a 12 cup pot requires 110-115 grams of coffee or about 15-18 scoops.

Step 3

Brew the desired amount. (If you’re using Tag coffee—and we know you are—brew some extra to share with friends.)

Step 4

Don’t forget to stir! No matter which brewing method you use, always stir your coffee at the end.

  • Great video for both coffee makers!
I have stopped using pods bc of the poor strength and flavor of the coffee.
Rachel gave me a couple of your pods to try, and they are amazing. The coffee flavor and the strength is great! I plan to order some TAG Coffee Pods, (and more). I really love the convenience of the Pods… it’s almost like having a cup of a French press brewed coffee. Thank you for sharing the coffee make tips (rinsing the coffee filters before brewing in a regular coffee maker, and running a cup of clear water 💦 before brewing your pod in a Keurig Coffee Maker (especially if you forgot to take the pod out after brewing)
