How to Brew Great Coffee with a French Press

The French press is a classic brewing method that is often used, but rarely perfected. It doesn’t have to be that way, though. Follow our step by step guide below to brew delicious, full bodied Tag coffee with your French press—we recommend our Tireswing blend for the best results.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

-Fresh ground Tag coffee (Try Tireswing)
-A way to boil water
-A French press
-A scale or TBSP coffee scoop
-A grinder or pre-ground coffee

THE RECIPE:

-700ml/g of water or 2 medium coffee cups of water poured into your boiler
-48g of coffee or 6-7 heaping tbsp of ground coffee-Coarse ground coffee

STEP ONE:

Bring your water to a boil.

STEP TWO:

Measure out 48g of whole bean coffee or 6-7 tbsp of ground coffee.

STEP THREE:

If you’re using whole beans, grind them to a coarse level. Your coffee should look a lot like Kosher salt.

STEP FOUR:

Place your French press on your scale and pour your coffee in.
Tare your scale so that you can start with fresh weight/time.

STEP FIVE:

Pour 700g/ml of boiling water over your coffee. There's no specific method of pouring, just make sure that you saturate all of your grounds.

STEP SIX:

Let that sit for 1 minute to allow the coffee to release gases and bloom.

STEP SEVEN:

After 1 minute, take a spoon and break the crust. This pushes the coffee back into the water so that all of the grounds brew.

STEP EIGHT:

Continue your brew for another 5 minutes (6 minutes total).

STEP NINE:

Place your lid back into the carafe and slowly press down. Make sure that you press gently until you reach the bottom so that you don't end up with sediment in your cup. Pushing the plunger in also stirs your coffee.

STEP TEN:

Pour your cup of coffee and enjoy.
